In addition to having two newborns on our hands, these guys were preemies which means we had to wait for them to get home and settled before our photo session, and their startle reflex was pretty well developed...so the sound of my camera shutter was a little shocking to sensitive sleeping babies. That equates to resetting poses quite a few times! With enough soft heat blowing on them we finally lulled them into a nice slumber so we could work with them.
I was honored to capture the first official photos of this brother and sister and we look forward to seeing these two grow up together.
I've been putting together some props and items to do a Moonrise Kingdom inspired Mini Session this Spring so this was a perfect opportunity to give things a test run. Since we had been planning to shoot in the studio this was a nice surprise to get out in the fresh air. Shooting with these vintage items added some real whimsy and adventure, we are looking forward to adding more styled shoots to our line up.
We'll be announcing dates and location for booking this mini once the weather starts to warm up, so stay tuned for that.
This shoot will be perfect for boys or girls, sibling groups and even Mom and Dad!

But what then? So often I hear from clients who are returning to us for family portraits, newborn photos, that say to me...Wow, I really need to do something with my photos! I meant to make an album but never got around to it!
While there are many, many consumer grade albums on the market there still is no substitute for a professionally designed and professionally printed and bound wedding album. An archival piece of family history to share with kids, grandkids, family and friends. The tactile experience of holding the photos in your hand, presented in a light that your photographer has envisioned really brings the experience full circle in a way scrolling through image on an i-pad does not.
I am reminded of this every time a client album arrives from the lab and I get to open it for the first time and see the photos in this way. Even though I have seen these images many, many times during the process of shooting, editing, designing...it is still a thrill each time I see the completed project in print.
Just food for thought when you are booking your photography, if you can swing that package with an album...DO IT! And if you need to do it later on down the road, don't forget that the one year anniversary gift is PAPER! So I think an album would certainly qualify.
Technology changes, digital media can degrade or corrupt but a high quality archival print can last for centuries. No matter what, get at least a few photos printed at a real photo lab! You'll be glad you did.
I have included some images of a recent client album, this is an example of out most popular book, a leather bound 12 x 12 album.

We spent several hours together, so our session was relaxed and unrushed, just as it needs to be for a tiny little lady. My plan is to shoot more of this style shoot in 2016, capturing the family, their home and the first precious days and moments with baby (or kids of any age!)
Babies in baskets are surely cute but I think this mix of editorial with a touch of light posing makes for a more real, more meaningful and less stressful experience for everyone. Life with a baby moves fast and changes quickly and I had a great time capturing this window of time; the family, the baby and the home. And of course the cats stopped by to get in on the action.
Congratulations to Nick and Ildie and welcome Baby Isabella.
